Energy for Equality is an Activity of the MCA Kosovo’s JETA Project focused on gender equality and workforce development.

Energy for Equality aims to increase female representation in the energy and complementary sectors by promoting gender equitable practices within companies, supporting networking, mentoring, and training opportunities for women, strengthening educational pathways, and providing technical assistance and small grants to energy and adjacent sector employers. The project also includes new technical training programs to help women gain the skills demanded by employers in the energy sector and required in Kosovo’s energy transition.

Energy for Equality includes the following sub-activities:

Energy for Equality Pathways

Energy for Equality Pathways supports women’s career paths by strengthening their capacities, practical knowledge, and support systems to enter, remain, and grow within the dynamic energy sector. We believe that by investing in women’s professional development, we can create a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative workforce.

Energy for Equality Grants

MCA Kosovo will provide grants to advance women’s representation and careers in the energy sector. The grants are designed to achieve the following: Increase the implementation and institutionalization of gender-friendly working environments for women in energy and adjacent sectors in Kosovo. What is a gender-friendly working environment? Where women from diverse backgrounds, including those from minority communities are valued as talented employees. Where companies have the policies and practices to recruit, employ, retain, and promote women employees. Examples include family friendly policies that benefit men and women and practices to prevent workplace gender-based violence and harassment.

Energy for Equality Awards

Energy for Equality Awards aims to recognize companies’ efforts to advance gender equality while enhancing good practice sharing, positioning companies as attractive workplaces for women, and increasing awareness among energy and complementary sector companies of the benefits of gender equality in the workplace.

MCA Kosovo is the outcome of a collaborative partnership between the United States of America and the Republic of Kosovo, formalized through the signing of the Compact Agreement in July 2022. As a foundation, our mission revolves around executing the transformative Compact Program, reflecting the shared commitment to driving sustainable development, economic growth, and social empowerment in Kosovo. The MCC's substantial grant of $202 million provides a foundational backing for MCA Kosovo's initiatives, reflecting the joint commitment to Kosovo's sustainable growth. This partnership underscores shared values and goals, positioning MCA Kosovo as a conduit for progress and transformative change. MCA Kosovo’s central objective is to oversee and implement the Compact Program, a comprehensive initiative comprising significant projects. These projects include the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project, the JETA Project focused on gender equality and workforce development, and the Accelerating Catalytic Private Investment (ACFD) Project. Together, these endeavors are strategically designed to propel Kosovo towards sustainable energy practices, inclusivity, and economic diversification.

Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is an independent U.S. Government foreign aid agency based on the principle that aid is most effective when it reinforces good governance.

MCC and the Government of the Republic of Kosovo signed a $202 million Compact that will transform Kosovo's energy sector to be more sustainable, inclusive, reliable and affordable. The Kosovo Compact aims to accelerate the country's transition towards an energy future that is more sustainable, inclusive, reliable, and affordable by targeting Kosovo's unreliable supply of electricity. MCC provides time-limited grants promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and strengthening institutions. These investments in core infrastructure and policy and institutional reforms are key interventions that are improving the lives of nearly 270 million people across 46 countries and five continents. MCC investments support stability and prosperity in partner countries all while furthering American interests.
